Arizona State University finished in a tie for 20th in a peer-assessment ranking of the best fine arts schools by U.S. News that examined 229 campuses around the nation in areas such as graphic design and painting.

The Tempe school’s peer-assessment survey score was 3.7. Academics at peer universities provided the program assessments, which were based on a scale of marginal to outstanding (1 to 5).

Survey decisions were coordinated through the Department of Art and Visual Technology at the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Virginia’s George Mason University.

The assessment scores of schools that were under 2.0 were not published.

The surveys were conducted in the fall of 2015.
